Weekly sports recap: 11/14/11

November 6
Women’s Soccer – #9 Mines 2, CMU 0 – Allison Oien scored her first goal of the year, Megan Woodworth scored her twelfth of the year, and Tournament MVP Penny Rogers made two saves in the shutout as Mines won its first ever RMAC Tournament Title.

November 8
Volleyball – #11 Metro State 3, Mines 0 – Metro State swept Mines in three straights set to knock the Orediggers out of the RMAC Tournament. Jackie Stabell had 12 kills and Holly Hutchison added eight while Sam Johnson had a team high eight digs. RMAC Setter of the Year Amanda Massey finished with 25 assists.

November 11
Men Swim and Dive – Utah 109, Mines 88 – Matt Bisping won the 100 breaststroke, Zach Gertig won the 100 freestyle, and Jack McElhannon placed first in the 1000 freestyle as Mines fell to Division I University of Utah.
Women Swim and Dive – Utah 103, Mines 86 – Jackie Mays (50 freestyle), Rainey Perkins (1000 freestyle), Stevie Davidson (200, 500 freestyle), Cayla Wood (400 IM, 100 butterfly), Michaela McNiff (100 free), Monica Mick (100 backstroke), and Ali McCall (100 breaststroke) all turned in second place finishes for Mines.
Women’s Basketball – #9 Wayne St. 68, Mines 57 – After leading in the first half, Mines could not hold on for the upset as they fell to the Wildcats. Torey Langas had a team high 17 points and Angie Charchalis added 15 in the loss.

November 12
Football – #5 UNK 45, #20 Mines 21 – Clay Garcia threw for 268 yards and two scores and Dan Palmer gained 112 all-purpose yards, but Mines could not stop the UNK ground game, falling to the fifth-ranked Lopers in the final game of the regular season.
Men Swim and Dive – DU Invite – Andrew Zerwick placed fifth in the 200 backstroke (1:57.87), Matt Bisping finished eighth in the 200 breaststroke (22.40), and Zach Gertig finished tenth in the 200 freestyle (1:46.34) for the Orediggers.
Women’s Soccer – NSU 62, Mines 50 – Courtney Gallo turned in a game high 13 points, Angie Charchalis added nine, and Stephanie Fogle had seven as Mines once again struggled to start the second half and suffered their second straight loss.
