Position Running for: Student Body President

Why are you running for this position?
I am running for Student Body President because I want to help out my fellow Orediggers! Also, I want people to use ASCSM as the helpful resource it is meant to be, so I would like to implement a better system to make it easier for students to voice their opinions.

Detail any other offices or positions that you have held on campus.
I am currently the President of the CSM Club Tennis Team, Director of Recruitment for the CSM Panhellenic Council (Sororities), and At-Large Faculty Representative for ASCSM. Previously, I have held the positions of Freshman Class Representative for ASCSM, and Director of Campus Relations for Alpha Phi.

What makes you a standout person for this job?
I have been on ASCSM for the past two years, so I have the Student Government experience to handle this position. I am involved in various different clubs and organizations, such as Greek Life, Professional Societies, Club and IM Sports to name a few, which allows me to interact with every type of student on campus. I’m also one of the few girls on campus, so that’s pretty cool.

What would you like to see ASCSM accomplish in the upcoming year?
I would like to see ASCSM do more things for the students, like allow them to voice their opinion and actually have something be done about it, especially in individual departments.

If you were a superhero, which superhero would you be? Why?
I would be Iron Man, because then I can combine my brains and power to be a superhero, which is what I think a lot of people that graduate from Mines could do if they wanted to.

Why are you running for this position?
I have loved being a part of ASCSM these last three years and feel that I could bring a lot to the organization as President. I know that I could make changes that would benefit the organization and the Student body as a whole.

Detail any other offices or positions that you have held on campus.
In my first two years with ASCSM I was a class representative. By the end of my second term I knew that student government was something I was passionate about and I decided to run for Student Body Vice President to increase my involvement. During this past year I have gotten to be the Chair of the Parking Advisory Committee and the Student Liaison for public safety.

What makes you a standout person for this job?
I think that I am a good representation of the entire Student Body. I am friendly and very easy to approach. Because of this, I have been able to create friendships with many different types of students who are involved in multiple groups and organizations on campus. I am entering into my fifth year at mines and as a result I am taking a light course load. This will enable me to focus on the students’ needs and the tasks that go along with being President.

What would you like to see ASCSM accomplish in the upcoming year?
In the upcoming year I want to increase ASCSM members’ involvement on campus and campus awareness. As representatives we could really improve our communication with students and strive to cater to their needs. Feel free to email me about any concerns or questions you may have at rgrumet@mymail.mines.edu.

If you were a superhero, which superhero would you be? Why?
