Geek of the Week: Erik Charrier, Graduate Student, PhD, Mining Engineering

Plenty of Mines students go through the school with a goal of running through their academic gauntlet as quickly as possible. Others take a bit longer to leave this haven of geeks, either by choice or by trial and error. However, only a privileged few can claim the honor of knowing the campus as well as Erik Charrier, who, after wresting both a Bachelor of Science and a Master’s degree from Mines, continues to do battle with the school in pursuit of a PhD in Mining Engineering.

Geek of the Week: Josie Kinzie (Freshman, Geophysics)

Though there is much wisdom to be gained from listening to the experiences and pitfalls of upperclassmen, it behooves all Mines students to sometimes hear from the younger, up-and-coming geeks. Freshman Josie Kinzie, a Geophysics major, is one among the newer ranks of Mines students, but with her enthusiasm and love of all things nerdy, she truly earns her place within the elite ranks of the geeks of Mines.

Geek of the Week: Andrea Christians, Junior, Geology

The geeks at Mines come in all different varieties with varying types of geekiness. “Compared to this school, I’m quite normal,” laughed Andrea Christians. But to those not at Mines and even those not in Geology, as Andrea is, she certainly is qualified as a geek; both outstanding and out standing in the field. Between homework, field trips, and watching Netflix, Andrea found time to chat with The Oredigger about her geekiness.

Geek of the Week: Krista Horn

Looking around campus it may be said that this school is full of geeks. However, it is surprising the variety of geeks on this campus, and the variety of organizations they are involved in. Krista Horn is certainly no exception. With her toes in band, a sorority, and several other clubs, she is an example of a geek that not only loves her school, but also is committed to making it a better place by her presence. In the midst of all of this, The Oredigger found a couple minutes to chat with her about the role she plays on campus.

Geek of the Week: Kelsey Kopecky

Some geeks are content to sit at home, gather knowledge, game, read, and otherwise shut themselves away from the outside in keeping with the stereotypical sedentary nerd lifestyle. Others boldly venture out to see the rest of the world, meet other nerds from all walks of life, and work on projects that require both travel and artistic capabilities. This is the kind of geek people can find in Computer Science senior Kelsey Kopecky. The Oredigger caught up with Kopecky last week to learn about her geekery.
