Sigma Kappa Mines

The 411 on Sigma Kappa

As you may know, Sigma Kappa is one of the three sororities on campus. Our chapter, Zeta Pi, was founded on January 26, 1980 making us the first sorority on the Mines campus. The values that we live by in our everyday lives consist of personal growth, friendship, service and loyalty.

We excel in scholarship, leadership, and social activities within the sorority and around CSM. Sigma Kappa currently holds the highest GPA of the sororities on campus with an overall average of 3.14 and has 17 sisters on the Dean’s list. We strive for achievements such as these through study hours and help amongst each other. We as members are also proud to uphold our name as Sigma Kappa’s in the course of all of the events and services we do for our community. Some services that we contribute to include the Memory Walk for the Alzheimer’s Association, Clear Creek Clean-up, Highway Clean-up, and Second Wind Fund. Coming up, on November 19th from 5:00-10:00 PM in Freidhoff Hall in the Green Center, the Sigma Kappa’s are holding their annual fundraising event called Ultraviolet. It is the biggest event of the year in terms of raising awareness and money for The Sigma Kappa Foundation, which contributes to Alzheimer’s. It is a bingo and buffet evening full of friends and fun! The whole campus is invited and the ladies would be so thrilled if you came! Not only do we do stay involved with our community, but we love to have fun and spend time with each other as sisters. One way we get to know each other is by throwing a sisterhood retreat which is held near the beginning of the fall semester.

This is always a great time for active members to meet and become familiar with the new pledge class of that semester. Speaking of new pledges, we would like to congratulate the following girls for initiating on Sunday October 24th, ¬2010 and are now proud members of Sigma Kappa: Amanda Ayala, Ali Gerhards, Michelle Griffith, Sarah King, Hope Morton, Lianne Nelsen, Kara Ninke, Sammie Powell, Kate Rooney, Amanda Ross, and Alyse White.

We look forward to continue getting to know these girls and are super excited for a great year ahead of us. We hope to see you at the Ultraviolet event on the evening of November 19th!
