Community Spotlight: Goozell Yogurt

Steven Wooldridge / Oredigger

With a few more warm days left in the season, everyone has a chance to enjoy the cooling effects of one of Golden’s newest local businesses, Goozell Yogurt. Goozell opened their doors to Golden this past summer, in June. Their windows sport a bright blue and green logo that attracts customers, and the inside is just as radiant. Their self-serve frozen yogurt is priced by the ounce, so it is totally up to the customer as to what conglomeration they end up with. Flavors include “Mediterranean Mango,” “Istanbul Cheesecake,” or “Sultan Chocolate.”

They have options for the health-conscious too, with low-fat and no sugar added varieties. After filling your cup with one or many of their tasty flavors, the topping bar provides even more variety with over 15 toppings to choose from including fruits, nuts, and some types of candies.

All of Goozell’s yogurts are made from natural ingredients and have been Kosher certified. Their yogurt exceeds the standards set by the National Yogurt Association, whose standards are 10 times more stringent than traditional frozen yogurt. Also for purchase are small sandwiches from another local shop, D’Deli.

According to their website, Goozell derives their name from the Turkish word “Güzel,” meaning “beautiful.” Also noted by the store is that the word “yogurt” is Turkish in origin, and can be traced back to 2000 BC. The Turkish have been known to be wonderful hosts and create delightful food. “We want to bring a taste of that feeling to Goozell Yogurt and the people who visit,” said Brandon Narva, the owner of Goozell Yogurt.

So if you are craving dessert, or want a fun place to take your friends on a study break, (they are even open until 10 PM on weeknights!) take the short walk from campus to the corner of Washington and 12th and try Goozell Yogurt.
