Weekly sports recap: 2/6/12

February 3-4
Indoor T & F – Orediggers Hillary Hurst (eighth, 800m, 2:15.84) Marie Patton (seventh, mile, 5:06.15), and Hannah Schuster(tenth, mile, 5:14.95) all recorded top ten finishes for Mines. For the men, Russel Drummond (second, mile, 4:12.46) was Mines top placing individual finisher while Peter Jenkins (third, 800m, 1:52.83), Tyler Curtis (fourth, 3k, 8:41.60), Andrew Epperson (sixth, 3k, 8:45.32), Neal Anderson (eighth, 3k, 8:51.50) and Cody Walega (sixth, Pole Vault, 14-03.25) each finished in the top ten. Drummond, Jenkins, Garrett Hoch, and Mack McClain won the men’s DMR in 9:55.66, over four seconds faster than second place.

February 4
Men’s Basketball – #5 CSM 75, Regis 66 – Mines’ Trevor Ritchie led all scorers with 19 as the Orediggers used a late second half surge to pull away from the Rangers for their sixth consecutive victory. Dale Minschwaner added 16, Brett Green had 13 and Trevor Wages added 11 in the win.

Women’s Basketball – CSM 76, Regis 71 – Trailing by four at the break, Mines took the lead early in the second half and wouldn’t look back, holding Regis just out of reach and earning their second straight victory. Stephanie Fogle finished with a team high 21 points and Angie Charchalis added 16. Allie Grazulis had 11 while Taylor Helbig finished with 10 for the Orediggers who now hold a half game lead over eighth place NMH in the race for the eight team postseason playoff.

Wrestling – CSM 25, NMH 21 – Trailing 21-19 with two matches remaining, Alec Bird (197) and Robert Tucker (285) each earned clutch wins to seal the four point, come-from-behind victory. Chad Lousberg (141), Jordan Larsen (157) and Steve Kelly (165) all recorded wins as well as the Orediggers won their first duel meet of the season.
