Jeff Mangum returned to Denver for the first time in fourteen years. The legendary singer of Neutral Milk Hotel has been touring this year as a solo act, performing songs from their two studio albums. Denver holds a special place in Mangum’s heart, as it was the location where both of these records were recorded. His performance at the Ogden did not disappoint and reminded fans of what they have been missing for fourteen years.
Mines Little Theatre hosted an improv night last week for people to congregate and play iimprovisational games. Improv games require players to act out a sketch without a script.
Despite a small amount of graphical hiccups and some reductions in the dialogue system, “Mass Effect 3” is a masterpiece of storytelling and gameplay, until the last 5-10 minutes of the game. At that point, the game clumsily introduces several new plot points and forces you to make a choice on how the galaxy is saved. Fans everywhere were confused, upset, and enraged over the lack of closure and how new questions were presented that would never be answered. I know this information is weeks old, but I owe it to myself and the readers of “The Oredigger” to explain where “Mass Effect 3” went wrong.
Summer is coming soon to the students of the Colorado School of Mines, though that might seem unlikely through the haze of exams. Some students will take this time off, others will take classes, others will have internships, and others will graduate and move on to real jobs. Most will either have to or be able to take a longer trip during the summer than would be possible during the semester. In fact, Mines students could be considered to be scattering to the four corners of the country over the summer. With that in mind, “The Oredigger” here presents travel options in each of the four cardinal directions.
“May the Odds Be Ever in Your Favor,” the iconic phrase represents a lingering theme throughout the movie. Although the odds are never in anyone’s favor in this clever adaptation of the best-selling novel by Suzanne Collins, the film leaves audiences laughing, crying and occasionally jumping in terror from the many twists and turns thrown at them. Directed by Gary Ross. and staring the talents of Jennifer Lawrence as the sullen but determined sixteen year old Katniss Everdeen (Mystique in “X-Men First Class”) and Josh Hutcherson the quiet but likeable baker’s son Peeta Mellark (Jess Aarons in “Bridge to Terabithia”), critics and audiences alike agree “Hunger Games” is “entertaining.” According to Peter Rainer of The Christian Science Monitor, the pacing is “remarkably swift, given that the games themselves don’t start until halfway through the 144-minute running time.”
Walking around the Mines campus during this time of the year, it is easy to spot geeks who are overstressed, overcommitted, and losing their minds to their workloads. Yet despite this hectic season, it is still possible to comes across geeks like junior Josh Brown, who manage to be involved in several different organizations, have a social life, enjoy some free time, and somehow maintain a reputation as a hard worker. Luckily, he managed to find some time in his busy schedule to talk to the Oredigger.

In the time it takes to reheat leftover pasta, senior Track and Field runner Peter Jenkins can win an 800m race. Assuming that it takes 1:50.76 to cook that meal, that is exactly what Jenkins did earlier this month at the CU Invitational in Boulder.
