Students save big at Golden businesses

It is no secret that Golden embraces the Mines community. Many local stores welcome business from the campus by offering special discounts to Mines students.

By far the most widespread of these discounts is Golden’s Golden Ticket Program. Available to anyone that completes a Coors Brewery Tour, these discounts offer great deals at over 80 companies in and around the Golden area. Upon completion of a tour, guests are offered a Golden Ticket which must then be scratched off like a lottery ticket at participating merchants to receive the discount. The discounts range in value from 5% to 20% off of the customer’s purchase. Even though some restrictions apply, and are written on the ticket, it is a way to save some money and support Golden businesses.

In addition to the Coors Brewery Tour, Golden Tickets are also distributed at other various community and campus events including the CSM Health Fair, Career Days, International Student Orientation, New Student Orientation, and the First Friday Fairs, beginning in June.

Equally enticing, the Golden Ticket Program also provides cash prizes of $10 and $500. The $10 prize is usually just deducted from the total sale at the business it was scratched off at and the $500 prizes can be claimed at the Golden Visitor Center.

For this reason, Golden Greeter Coordinator Marie Gillis encourages Mines students to participate, explaining that this is a “fantastic program” and that it is worth students time, considering that “the last $500 winners were CSM students!”

Of the nearly 90 companies that participate in the Golden Ticket Program, many offer their own unique discounts to college or CSM students. Below are a list of just a few of the discounts that are offered.
