Cooking Corner: Monkey Bread

Be the star of the Super Bowl party with some homemade Monkey Bread! Soft bread dough smothered in a smooth cinnamon glaze excites the senses. This desert is designed to be torn apart and eaten by hand, rivaling the traditional finger foods. This dish is guaranteed to be the centerpiece of the snack table!

Ingredients

For Dough
¾ Cup Butter
4 Cups Flour
4 Tsp. Baking Powder
1 Tsp. Baking Soda
1 ¼ Cups Buttermilk (or a preferred substitute)
Pinch of Salt

For Sauce
¾ Cup Butter
1 ½ Cups Brown Sugar
For Garnish
½ Cup Brown Sugar
1 Tsp. Cinnamon

Instructions:
Heat butter and brown sugar for sauce in a saucepan on low. Stir gently and remove from heat when completely mixed. Next sift brown sugar and cinnamon for garnish in a small bowl together. In a larger bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Slowly add butter, mixing thoroughly. Then, add buttermilk and as always mixing thoroughly. Take approximately half of the sauce and add it to a small bread pan.Take half of the dough and rip into small, 1-inch chunks and roll into balls. Line bottom of the bread pan. Add half of the brown sugar and cinnamon mixture to the top. Then add half of the remaining sauce. Tear and ball up the last of the dough and create a second layer. Add remaining sugar, cinnamon, and sauce. Bake for approximately 30-40 minutes. Remove from oven and allow to cool for 1 minute. Invert onto a serving tray and enjoy.
