Coffee Lover? Windy Saddle Cafe has you covered

For those that appreciate a fine cup of black gold, the Windy Saddle Cafe at 1110 Washington Avenue here in Golden has much to offer. The coffee at Windy Saddle is truly something to relish. Roasted in Milwaukee, WI using only the finest fair-trade organic beans, Alterra Coffee is what Windy Saddle serves its numerous clientele. As a coffee lover, I was very pleased with the Americano I was served; it was made exactly right with the perfect levels of smokiness and bitterness, balanced out with mild acidity and a warm, nutty aftertaste. Experience would dictate that if a shop can do an Americano well they can do anything well.

Community Spotlight: Blue Canyon Grill serves up savory burgers

The Blue Canyon Grill was founded in 2004 by Ted and Jolynn Johnson as a downtown sports bar and grill specializing in great burgers and fresh, exciting appetizers. The Blue Canyon has been in it’s current location at 1301 Washington Ave since early 2010.
The current location is part of the old Foss Drug building, which has been renovated multiple times in the last few years. With lots of wood and stone, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with a large fireplace in the main dining room. The restaurant also has a full-size garage door that opens onto Washington, with a few tables placed on a patio in front. In all, the atmosphere is contemporary but homey, and very comfortable for a pleasant lunch.

Santiago’s proves half and half isn’t only for coffee

From the Colorado School of Mines, head down Washington Street towards highway 58 to find a small Mexican restaurant called Santiago’s.  Santiago’s is known as the home to some of the best breakfast burritos, making it a campus favorite.

These are not your run of the mill breakfast burritos. Santiago’s actually shapes their burritos, well…like burritos, contrary to the bizarre-shaped versions offered at other burrito joints. And unlike other restaurants, these burritos remain intact while they are being eaten.
