The Fault in Our Stars

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green is a heartbreaking story that will keep any reader riveted. It is an incredible story of life and death, and the challenges associated with both. This book will force the reader to keep reading until there is nothing left to read.

The Fault in Our Stars tells the story of Hazel Grace Lancaster. Hazel is a sixteen year old cancer patient who is struggling through life. She is forced by her parents to attend a cancer support group. At this support group, Hazel meets someone who will change her life. Augustus Waters is also a cancer survivor who is attending the meeting with his friend, Isaac who is going blind due to his cancer, to support him. Here Hazel’s and Augustus’s lives intersect, bringing them together. From there the friendship between Hazel and Augustus only grows.

The journey that Augustus and Hazel embark upon, brings them closer and yet farther away. Augustus uses his wish from “The Genies”, a fictionalized version of the Make a Wish Foundation, to fly himself and Hazel to Amsterdam, Netherlands to meet the author of ‘An Imperial Affliction’, Peter van Houten. This book is Hazel’s favorite and she had written to the author numerous times but had never received a response. Shortly before their departure to Amsterdam, Hazel begins to pull away from Augustus because she does not want to harm him when she inevitably succumbs to her cancer. Augustus refuses to accept this explanation but her fears are soon made even more real when she suffers from a severe case of pneumonia. However, despite all of this they still go on their trip to Amsterdam where they meet Peter van Houten, who is more than a little bit of a let down, however despite all of that they still manage to have a good time and grow even closer.

Upon their return home, Augustus reveals that his cancer, which had previously been in remission, has metastasized and spread around his body. Hazel and Augustus promise to fight this new cancer together but with cancer there is no guarantee of anything. From there the story advances, allowing the reader to watch the interactions between Hazel, Augustus and Isaac, Augustus’s best friend who also has cancer. Their story will be filled with happiness and laughter, as well as, tears and heartbreak but overall the book is an incredibly overwhelming story about life and death.

The Fault in Our Stars is an incredible book with characters that seem to leap off of the page and their lives will bring you to tears. Not only is the book incredible but it is a soon to by motion picture that promises to be just as good. The film will be released on June 6th, 2014 in the United States. This film will feature Shailene Woodley, Ansel Elgort and Nat Wolff. There is a huge fan base for the book due to John Green’s books and vlog, so there promises to be a large crowd showing up on opening night and the days to follow.

With the film sure to be a hit, be the first to pick up the book and read it. Follow the story of Hazel and Augustus before it is possible to be seen acting out on camera. ‘The Fault in Our Stars’ is an incredible story that will leave any reader laughing and crying and begging for more but it is impossible to put down so avoid reading it when there is homework to do or classes to go to.
