Colorado School of Mines Swimming Team had a tough matchup Saturday, swimming against Colorado Mesa and Northern Colorado. Both the men’s and the women’s teams lost in contested races. Only 5 of the 26 events featured a Mines swimmer finishing in first place. Brennan Mays finished first in the 1650 yard freestyle and 500 freestyle with a time of 16:29.72 and 4:51.54, respectively, Justin Dearden in the 400 IM with a time of 4:22.51, Pat Giedeman in the 200 fly with a time of 1:57.94, and Zack Gertig in the 100 free with a time of 47.54. Although the bleachers were filled with eager Mines fans, the Mines swimmers were not able to perform at their best.
