Late last Monday, Colorado School of Mines athletics announced that defensive coordinator Brandon Moore will be taking over as the new head coach for the Oredigger football team. Moore came into the position after the current football coach, Gregg Brandon, announced his retirement back on January 12th. Moore will be the 30th head football coach in the program’s history and has been a part of four RMAC championship teams at Mines (2016, 2018, 2019, and the most recent, and successful, 2021 season).

The Mines Football Twitter account posted a video of Moore’s new position being announced to the team on January 31st. The announcement was met with enthusiastic cheers and applause from the football team. Moore then gave a quick speech to the assembled players saying, “You’ll get everything from me. You’ll get all of me. You’ll get everything from your coaches. We’re gonna love you.”

Moore played his college football career at the University of Oklahoma and was a 2001 National Championship winner with the Sooners. He then went on to have a successful playing career with the NFL, including six seasons with the San Francisco 49ers from 2002 to 2007 and a season with the San Diego Chargers in 2010. Moore also played three seasons with the UFL’s Las Vegas Locomotives in 2009, 2010, and 2011. After his long and impressive playing career, Moore announced his coaching career and worked as the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach for Scottsdale Community College in Arizona.

Moore has been working with the Colorado School of Mines athletic department since 2016 and was promoted to co-defensive coordinator in 2018. In 2019, Moore took over as the team’s defensive coordinator. The 2019 season was easily one of Mines’ most successful; Mines ranked among the nations best teams in scoring defense and Moore’s strategic efforts revealed themselves with a program postseason-record win over Bemidji State in the NCAA Second Round.

We at The Oredigger believe it’s never too early to start getting hyped up for football season and it’s looking like the fall 2022 season is going to be Mines’ best yet! We’re so excited to have you Coach Moore!
