Released on August 13, Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World went mostly unheard of for the first few weeks after its release. Despite its the general approval by critics, the movie has only grossed about $26 million compared to box office hits, such as Toy Story 3, which took in over $400 million.
Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World is great for anyone who has played games on the SNES. The retro game aspect of the film adds an inventive and hilarious, not to mention flashy, special effects that makes the viewer feel like they are actually playing a game.
Unlike his previous movies, Michael Cera plays a slightly different character with his role as Scott Pilgrim. The script even glosses over Michael Cera slightly, causing the movie to actually be about the plot instead of one actor in particular. No longer does Michael Cera play that socially-awkward kid who only finds one girlfriend as he is now the guy in a garage band. And the band, Sex Bob-Omb, make a pretty good name for themselves in Toronto, Canada. Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World causes Michael Cera to play a new character who has been out of high school for a few years and is more of a heart breaker than a lover maker.
Overall, Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World is a great movie for a date night. There is romance for her and plenty amounts of gratuitous violence that will satisfy any guys’ action needs. The humor in the movie is both guy and gal friendly because it is neither too gross nor is it too subtle. Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World, though largely unnoticed, is an amazing film that will keep you laughing and rocking out until the last second.
