Strong offense takes down Chadron State

Shortly after the Lady Orediggers took down Chadron State last Saturday evening, the No. 13 ranked men’s team looked to do the same on Senior Night. In one of their best offensive performances of the season, CSM did just that, defeating the Eagles 104-72. Just one night after Brian Muller hit the 1000 point mark for his career, Senior Luke Meisch looked to surpassed the mark as well, needing only four points to also reach the 1000 point plateau.

For the first few minutes of the contest, it looked as though Chadron may give Mines some trouble, as they had the Orediggers down 9-8. But CSM put up an 11-0 run to grab the 19-9 lead, and they never looked back from there. Up 57-36 at halftime, a CSM was all but assured in the first 20 minutes of play. Mines built upon their already large lead in the second half, cruising to the eventual 104-72 final score.

Despite all CSM players having great nights, Brett Green stood out with a game-high 31 point performance on 10-of-13 shooting to go along with four rebounds, two steals, and a block. Trevor Wages notched a double-double, putting up 17 points and 13 rebounds in the game, while Luke Meisch (14), Brian Muller (11), and Will Carr (14) all reached double figure scoring versus the Eagles.

As the final score would suggest, the Orediggers owned every edge on the team stat sheet, outshooting Chadron State from the field (56.2% vs. 42.3%), the three point line (56.5% vs. 26.1%), and the free throw line (70.4% vs. 57.9%). CSM also outrebounded the Eagles 41-29 and committed five fewer turnovers in the contest.

The Orediggers finish out their fantastic regular season on Saturday, March 1 at Colorado Christian in Lakewood, and will then focus on making a strong run in the RMAC tournament.
