The Ballroom Dance Club welcomed the new semester in style with their Yule Ball. The Ball was on Saturday, Jan. 23, hosted in Freidhoff Hall of the Green Center and was focused on raising money for the Waltz Team, Perpetual Motion.
The Ballroom Dance Team charged community members and Mines students, faculty and staff to attend, with all of the proceeds going to fund this year’s Waltz team.
Every little bit of fundraising helps the team to get to and from their competitions, along with any other expenses the team encounters. The event was well attended and they raised a lot of money to support the Waltz team.
In an effort to attract more people and simply to make it more fun, the theme of the dance was Harry Potter. Everyone attending was encouraged to dress up in their house colors or Harry Potter costumes of any kind.
People certainly did not disappoint, dressed up in their house colors showing support for Slytherin, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff.
For anyone who might have missed out or regrets not attending, there will be several other events just like this put on by the Ballroom Dance Club later in the semester. If that seems too far off then don’t panic; the Ballroom Dance Club has weekly dance lessons for Swing, Tango, Waltz and Blues dancing.
Tango and Blues will be on Wednesdays in the McNeil Room in the Student Rec Center at 6pm and 7:30pm, respectively. Waltz and Swing dance will be on Fridays in Ballroom E of the Student Center, at 4pm and 5:30pm, respectively.
If anyone is interested in getting a little more serious, there are two official dance teams on campus. The Waltz team, Perpetual Motion, and the Swing team, the Slide Rulers, are always looking for more members.
