Halloween weekend is a fun time for everybody, people dress up, eat a bunch of candy, and take a little break from their normal day to day routine. This year’s Halloween weekend was exciting for another reason too: Mines had another home football game!
The Orediggers took the lead early in the game with a touchdown at 9:17 in the first quarter. This touchdown was scored by Micheal Zeman, who ran 17 yards to open. Josh Johnston then scored a spectacular dive over the line touchdown with 6:31 left on the clock.
The second quarter was just as action packed as the first quarter. Tristan Smith completed an incredible 46 yard reception and scored Mines’s third touchdown of the game at 11:56. A second touchdown by Micheal Zeman later followed with a mere 50 seconds left on the clock.
The halftime show was full of Halloween fun! The Mines Dance team opened with a spectacularly choreographed monster inspired performance. The Mines cheer team, accompanied by the Mines Little Cheer Time, followed with an adorable routine. The members of the Mines Marching Band (who were all dressed in Halloween costumes) closed with a combined performance of the Ghostbusters theme and Thriller. The band was accompanied by Blaster, who joined in the performance with his own Ghostbuster costume.
The third quarter was relatively calm compared to the first two quarters, with Max McLeod scoring a Mines’s final touchdown well into the quarter. The opposing team, the Chadron State Eagles, managed to pull through and score their only touchdown early in the fourth quarter. Mines persevered and the game ended with another win for the Orediggers 34-7. Way to go Orediggers!!!
The Orediggers next game will be on November 6th at CSU Pueblo, We wish the team the best of luck!
