After suffering only their second loss of the season on Friday night, the 11th ranked Oredigger men’s basketball rebounded in strong fashion on Saturday, defeating Fort Lewis 88-70.

The Colorado School of Mines wrestling team squared off against CSU-Pueblo on the road Wednesday and suffered a 36-18 defeat. With the defeat, Mines drops to 0-2 on the season and 0-2 in the RMAC.

Lady Orediggers win streak comes to an end

Riding a three game winning streak into Saturday night’s game against Fort Lewis, the Lady Orediggers had high hopes of knocking off the RMAC’s fourth place team. However, Mines was not able to secure their fourth consecutive win, falling to the Skyhawks 75-60.

Colorado School of Mines Swim and Dive team lost on Saturday against Oklahoma Baptist University. Despite swimming in unfriendly waters, the men and women of CSM brought their ‘A’ game, falling short only 16 and 11 points respectively.

Mines track teams have impressive showings at Air Force Academy

The Colorado School of Mines men’s and women’s track teams headed to the Air Force Academy for two days of events Friday and Saturday, and came away with some impressive showings finishing second out of four Division II schools.
Led by senior Ryan Ewen on Friday, the Oredigger men captured the top four places in Division II. Ewen finished eleventh overall with a throw of 16.73 meters, junior Austin Roup came in fourteenth (15.09m), senior Nico Redfern was fifteenth (15.07m), and sophomore Jacob Hollister came in sixteenth (14.5m). For the women, senior Cassie Ratzlaff finished thirteenth with a throw of 15.11m.

Lady Orediggers Capture Third Straight Win

The Colorado School of Mines women’s basketball team squared off against Adams State on Friday night looking to claim their third straight victory. The Lady Orediggers used a strong defensive presence to grab the victory 54-40 at home.
In the first half, Mines held Adams State to 14.3% shooting including 0-10 from three, while shooting 39.1% themselves. Mines outscored the Grizzlies 22-12 in the first half, and never led by less than 10 points after halftime. Mines only trailed for 56 seconds in the game, coming at 2-0 early in the first half.

Adams State upsets the Orediggers at Home Friday

The No. 11 Colorado School of Mines men’s basketball team ran into an extremely hot shooting team Friday night, and were upset 89-75. Adams State (9-6, 6-6 RMAC) shot a blistering 55.6% from the field and forced Mines into 20 turnovers. Mines ( 14-2, 10-2 RMAC) was led in scoring by Trevor Wages who had 17 points on the night to go along with 13 rebounds, one block and one steal.

A Non-Sports Fan’s Guide to the Super Bowl

Super Bowl Sunday and its glorious traditions of camaraderie, junk food, trash talking, expensive commercials, and extreme couch potato-ing are fast approaching. The Super Bowl is arguably the biggest and most important American football game in existence, largely because people who pour ungodly amounts of money into tickets and advertising say it is. However, not everybody experiences the same level of enthusiasm for this sacred annual football game and many of these non-sports fans will be pressured into watching or at least pretending to care about a game and traditions which they know little to nothing about. For those of you who fall into this category, fear not. While it may prove impossible to learn everything there is to know about football before the big game, it is not particularly difficult to learn enough about a combination of football and human behavior to be able to successfully navigate all the requisite social activity surrounding this most treasured and monetized of American sporting traditions.
