Amanda Casner is the perfect blend of geek and nerd at Mines, from loving physics to loving Harry Potter. In her second year at Mines, she has found her groove in the Mines community and also is a TA for Physics I.
Some students think they have a good idea where they will end up in the long run, but for most students, life is a journey figured out on the way. Senior Bradley Wilson definitely identifies with the latter, and has had an interesting route from considering a liberal arts school to ending up playing with data on MATLAB.
What drives plate tectonics? Heat flow, of course. Or energy transfer…it is all the same. It is the act of sketching poorly-drawn Mohr’s circles that tires the mind and the hours upon hours scanning for the missing parenthesis that drains the eyes. Is there is even time to eat dinner? Lunch? Breakfast? Forget second breakfast and supper, right? But the physical laws of the universe remain: heat flows, dinner plates subduct, spread, or slip past each other from a lapse in friction, and fall onto the floor in a pile of entropic ceramic pieces.

With Saturday afternoon’s 6-4 win over the Regis Rangers at Jim Darden Field, the Oredigger baseball team set a program record for conference wins at 18. The Diggers are on a streak of success and have now won 15 of their last 20 games. The sweep of Regis brings their record to 20-17 overall and 18-12 in the RMAC. Mines took Thursday’s game 7-6, Friday’s 15-4, and Saturday’s doubleheader 6-2 and 6-4.
With summer less than three weeks away, school becomes more difficult yet more important to focus on. Yet, the plans for the summer months can be a motivator to get through the last few midterms, projects, and homework assignments. Whether going on their departmental Field Camps, gaining experience on the job, or doing things for fun, Mines kids know how to have a great summer.
