Game Review: BioShock Infinite

Released for PC, Xbox 360, and PS3, “BioShock Infinite” turns away from the underwater realm of the first two games and goes to new heights, literally, taking place in the floating city of Columbia in 1912. The player plays as Booker Dewitt, a man from New York with a debt and guilt that can only be repaid if he retrieves a girl from Columbia.

Game Review: E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial

Fans of the hit 1982 film “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial” should be excited to find that there was a videogame adaptation for the Atari 2600 also released in 1982. This game is without a doubt one of the most influential in the history of video games, as it completely altered the market for such products. In addition, it permanently altered the path of Atari, Inc., by setting a rather high bar for video games based on existing intellectual properties. This game has also been immortalized in a memorial in Alamogordo, New Mexico, so the video game industry will never forget the story of the Atari 2600 version of E.T., which is honestly better than the film.

It may be time to revisit Half-Life

If you’re like me, you played Half-Life at a young age. Chances are you missed a lot of what this series has to offer (if you haven’t played or heard of Half-Life, you may not belong at Mines). Or maybe you understood the scientific anomalies, taxonomy of all the alien species, the multi-faceted government cover-ups, and interdimensional politics on your first go around. Well it’s safe to say I did not; partly due to the fact my primary exposure to the series was through watching my older brother and uncle play.

Wake up to Alan Wake

“Steven King once wrote that nightmares exist outside of logic and there’s little fun to be had in explanations. They’re antithetical to the poetry of fear. In a horror story the victim keeps asking why, but there can be no explanation and there shouldn’t be one. The unanswered mystery is what stays with us the longest and is what we’ll remember in the end. My name is Alan Wake, I’m a writer.”

Under the Radar Games: 999

5…4…3…2…1…Boom! A loud noise startles Junpei awake, and his eyes snap open. He wakes to find a completely unfamiliar room. Still groggy, he falls to the metal floor and finds that his whole body hurts and that he has large bump on his head. “Where…am I…?” Looking around the room, he sees a large iron door. On it, written in red paint, is the number “5.” Trying to open it, he finds it is locked.

Space Empires V Review

When people think of a 4X (explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate) game, they think of the “Civilization” series, the quintessential 4X game. For space 4X games, people think of “Sins of a Solar Empire,” “Master of Orion,” or “Galactic Civilizations.” “Space Empires V” tries to break into the genre, but it unfortunately falls short of its potential.
