Community Spotlight: Cannonball Creek Brewery

Golden welcomed a new brewery two weeks ago and it is popular. Cannonball Creek Brewery, located on 393 Washington Avenue, opened its doors on January 19 to a flood of eager guests. The brewery struggled to keep up with demand as glasses were washed on spot. The grand-opening crowd was so large that Cannonball Creek had to close its doors for the following Tuesday and Wednesday to brew more beer. The success of the brewery is no surprise given Golden’s historic relationship with Coors and the multitude of beer-connoisseurs in the area.

Community Spotlight: Old Capitol Grill

In downtown Golden on Washington Avenue stands a building that seems to be straight out of the 1920s. Old Capitol Grill was last remodeled in 1993, and the outside restored to its former glory. Built by W.A.H. Loveland, the building that houses the Old Capitol Grill was once the capitol building of the Colorado territory. The first legislature sessions were held there in 1866, during the time when Denver and Golden were in a battle over which city would become the capital city. Loveland, himself, was one of Mines first trustees, and the school held some of its first sessions in his building as well. Old Capitol Grill spans the Loveland building, as well as the north side of the building, built by Adolf Coors.

Across from Golden High School, a unique atmosphere is brewed at the 5th Ring Coffee House. A nearby table provides any add-ins a customer would want, including cinnamon, nutmeg, honey, creamer, and milk to list a few. 5th Ring also serves a lineup of lattes, cappuccinos, Italian sodas, and a few specialty drinks created by the staff.
