Community Spotlight: Paninos

Tucked behind Washington Avenue on 12th Street, Paninos waits patiently for their time to shine. Previously known as Pandoros, this sandwich shop opened under new management and a new name only four weeks ago. “Our customer base right now are ones from the old owners that keep coming back. They say they love it,” said Freddy Ng, one of the employees at Paninos.

Community Spotlight: Goozell Yogurt

With a few more warm days left in the season, everyone has a chance to enjoy the cooling effects of one of Golden’s newest local businesses, Goozell Yogurt. Goozell opened their doors to Golden this past summer, in June. Their windows sport a bright blue and green logo that attracts customers, and the inside is just as radiant. Their self-serve frozen yogurt is priced by the ounce, so it is totally up to the customer as to what conglomeration they end up with. Flavors include “Mediterranean Mango,” “Istanbul Cheesecake,” or “Sultan Chocolate.”

Community Spotlight: Phở Golden

Pronounced “fuh,” Phở is a Vietnamese dish many would ignorantly call soup. This delicacy of southeast Asia is so much more than soup, as anyone who has sampled its bountiful flavors can attest. Phở, a broth with rice noodles and your choice of meats, is spiced differently than anything you would expect from something like Chinese food. This excellent dish originated in Vietnam in the early 20th century, when the French arrived and introduced the concept of using cattle for food rather than just as beasts of burden. It is now a common and well-traveled dish, and well-loved by Vietnamese and Americans alike.

Community Spotlight – Angelo’s CDs and More

Nestled off of 32nd Street and Youngsfield Ave in the Applejacks and Wal-Mart shopping center is a little known music store named Angelos’ CDs and More. Since their first store opened in Aurora, Angelos has been serving the local community for over 20 years. Upon entering the store, it is obvious that what it lacks in size, it makes up for in uniqueness. Stickers, posters, and even bobble heads adorn the walls and shelves of the store.

Community Spotlight: Golden Library offers division

Colorado School of Mines students tend to be a left-brained bunch. They pore over chemistry, physics, mathematics, and engineering late into the night, in an unending search for the correct answer. However, many students recognize, or at least suspect, the existence of a world outside of the left-brained confines of their classes. For these students, there is a haven just a few blocks away at the Golden branch of the Jefferson County Public Library (JCPL).
